The best way I can describe this past month of having two pups is that it has been far from boring. It’s been 100% rewarding but also very challenging. Luna and Bowie get along, although Luna is very much all about everything being on her terms. They cuddle… on her terms, they play… on her terms. So basically if she’s not having it, she’ll put Bowie in his place. Now Bowie, is obsessed with Luna. He wants whatever she has and always wants to play with her even if she can’t be bothered.
The main thing I really learned this month that no dog’s story is the same. By that I mean, training has definitely been different between the two dogs. Luna, was a very easy pup to deal with, she picked up crate training quickly. She would just cry for about 5 minutes and that was it, she’d sleep through the night and wake up at 6:30 a.m. Bowie on the other hand… he is the total opposite. Still to this day he is not a fan and will wake up around 2 a.m. to go to the bathroom and then be confused to why we aren’t playing. I’m hoping that once he gets his final shot on Wednesday and we can take him outside and really wear him out, that this issue will go away quickly because he’ll be a new level of tired.
Bowie is a very affectionate and loyal dog. He’s become very bold when it comes to playing with Luna, he’s already figured out how to get her to play or how to initiate zoomies. He’s a big ole mama’s boy and it has brought me nothing but joy. One of my favorite things he does is that he will hop around the room like a bunny when he’s happy or feeling playful. Because of that I definitely want to teach him how to jump on command in the near future.
Bowie currently knows sit and knows stay but has yet to really hold it for a decent amount of time unless we are working on training. He’s almost got down, he will follow a treat but hasn’t quite picked up the hand signal or verbal command yet. He’s also working on roll over, he will follow the treat for that trick as well. I learned with Luna that it would be easier to teach roll over as a puppy, we waited until she was almost 1 year old and she just refuses to do it. It also helps that Bowie already rolls over a lot in general.
So far the first month of being a two dog home is pretty much what you would expect. I can’t wait for Wednesday so we can finally take Bowie outside, that will honestly make things a lot easier once we can give him the amount of exercise he needs. If you have two dogs and have any tips, I would love to hear them! Please leave a comment with what you learned having two dogs.
