Hey guys so sorry there wasn’t a post on Monday, I have been liking the routine of having a post every Monday and Friday however, last Thursday life sort of threw my family through a loop unexpectedly and we had quite a stressful turn of events that needed to be dealt with. We are still handling it, however the majority of this unexpected turn of events has been resolved so I have had more of my free time back in order to work on my blog. Last Saturday, whilst in the middle of this stressful event, Sean and I went to the Treasure Island Flea Market. I had been planning this for a couple of weeks now so it landed perfectly to serve as a fun thing to take our minds off of the stress also the flea market is the last weekend of every month so I really did not want to wait another month before I could go just cause something unexpected happened. Let me tell you though, it was really cool and I am definitely glad we went. Will be going to future Treasure Island Flea markets. The only unpleasant thing was the traffic on the drive there. First thing on my to do list is to buy a Fast Track, I will not be waiting 40 mins in line with the bridge toll in sight ever again.
When Sean and I arrived we were starving since the drive took forever so we headed straight for the food trucks. There were so many lined up but Sean spotted a sign that said “wood fire grilled pizza” and was like “yep”. Good choice Sean, good choice! This pizza was so amazing, I got the margarita, which happens to be one of my favorites, I will definitely need to get a pizza oven one day in the future to be able to make my very own homemade pizza.
After eating I noticed the view of the San Francisco skyline from shore so I suggested to Sean that we go over there and ask someone to take our picture. We happened to run into this huge family, which was perfect. Sean offered to take their picture if they could take one for us in return. The father of the family taking the photos happened to be deaf, but he was the most refreshing and inspiring positive and happy go lucky person I have ever met. After Sean took a photo of the family, the father told Sean to get in there to take a photo with his family and summoned me to join. After that he took some great photos of Sean and I. He was so nice and I’m sure I will remember this experience forever, I have never met someone who was completely deaf before, so seeing him being genuinely happy and enthusiastic with strangers was inspiring.
After taking photos, Sean and I explored the vendors. I ended up purchasing a white turquoise elephant necklace, I just couldn’t resist. Then we had some of the tastiest cupcakes ever (you know I am going to really elaborate on this part ha!). The vendor was We The Minis and the cupcake I ended up having was peach lemon cupcake, two of my favorite flavors! The cupcake was a lemon cake with cream cheese peach frosting with a grilled peach on top. This was honestly probably one of the best cupcakes I have ever had in my life. I could tell upon the first bite that the ingredients were fresh and organic and the frosting was not overly done with cream cheese. It was pretty much the perfect balance and I totally want the recipe! After the flea market I looked up We The Minis and found out that they do catering, but also have a mission of helping the fight against hunger, which the public health nerd in me loved. It’s nice to see local businesses find a way to relate what they provide to help an important cause. Definitely check them out, I promise you won’t regret it.
The Treasure Island Flea Market is definitely something I highly recommend if you are looking for a mini adventure in the Bay Area on a weekend. Remember it is only on the last weekend of each month. They have a website that I will provide the link here. Definitely hoping I can go to the next one and can’t wait!
