On Labor Day, my parents, Sean, and I went to Sonoma for the day to explore the shops and wine taste. It was my first time going to Sonoma for the purpose of wine tasting. We went to the Sonoma Plaza area.
The first place we went to wine taste was Highway 12. The lady who poured our wine tasters, Sharron, was very charismatic and charming. She treated us very well and gave us a decent amount of wine to taste (I’m talking nearly a 1/3 of a glass) and the wine tasting was free! My parents and Sean happen to be big red wine people…me not so much, so the fact that this winery had mostly red wines to taste made them happy. I tried a few sips of Sean’s tastings and actually liked some of them, so maybe I’ll eventually become a red wine gal. After our experience at Highway 12 we were just stoked to try more places and soak in the atmosphere Sonoma had to offer. After Highway 12 we tried the wine at Passagio, which had more whites than reds so I was excited to try it. It was a boutique winery that sold only a select amount of wine bottles each season so that way they could create more of a variety to choose from.
The next winery/tasting room we went to, which happened to be my favorite, was Envolve Winery. I was in charge of picking the next place and this place drew me in with their amazing happy hour! They had a sign for all day happy hour $7 glasses of wine and $6 dollar cheese plate. Needless to say everyone was sold. We got to pick three cheeses and were given a hefty amount along with a solid helping of crackers. They treated us very well at this place and I enjoyed the atmosphere and just being chatty with my parents and Sean. I went with their 2014 Sauvignon Blanc and it was sooo amazing, probably my favorite out of everything I tasted that day. It was so great that I actually joined and became a club member! I was convinced because not only did I really enjoy the wine I tried there but so did my parents and Sean. I can’t wait to participate in exclusive club member events.
After having the amazing happy hour at the Envolve tasting room, my mom and I headed over to Sigh to try champagne. Sigh is an exclusive champagne and sparkling wine place, I was really interested to try this place not just because I love champagne but I really liked the design of their branding. My mom and I both got the champagne flight which included Sigh Chateau de Bligny Brut, Bligny, J. lassalle Cachet D’Or, Chigny-Les-Roses, and Veuve Clicquot Brut, Reims. They were all very nice and fancy champagnes. I bought a bottle and…oops it ended up being expensive, but I mean I didn’t know the price until check out. Oh well I decided to save it for a special occasion so I can really enjoy it! Regardless, my mom and I took our flights and sat in a little seat cushion corner and just spent an hour sipping on our champagnes and had a very lovely conversation/bonding time.
For dinner we ate at this incredibly delicious Portuguese restaurant called La Salette. I was ecstatic to wine and dine here because I’ve always been really into learning more about Portuguese culture since it is part of my heritage. I’ve never had Portuguese food before so when we were told that there was a restaurant here my face lite up and I declared that is where we would be eating dinner. I decided to get a Portuguese white wine flight because I was unsure what to pick. Definitely a great decision, I think my favorite was the lightest of them all, the Raza Vinho Verde Minho. Then for dinner I got Bacalhu no Forno, which was a casserole of cod, potatoes, onions, and olives. OH MY GOD this was soooo amazing, honestly the best thing I’ve ever had. I’ve been craving it ever since and wish that was part of my daily diet, I’m just like ummmm can we go back to Sonoma already? I had a blast and think that will be my future weekend trip getaway
