Hi guys super excited to bring you the second Allie Crafts On Sundays today mainly because of the fact that I announced I’m launching my etsy shop this month. If you happened to miss that on Friday I announced that I will be launching my etsy shop, Allie Crafts Art on the 15th! Here is the blog post if you want to check that out.
Recently I’ve been experimenting a bit more with watercolor, as I mentioned before this is a medium I’m pretty beginner with and am not comfortable working with at all. If you don’t follow me on instagram or twitter, you should HA ok to the point I meant to say was then you probably do not know about #byoc. BYOC is Bring Your Own Creativity, a challenge made by Katy over at Greens & Blues Co. This kicked off last month as a challenge to do in the summer to encourage people to embrace/act on creativity. I was kindly asked if I wanted to participate and of course after receiving that email about asking if I wanted to participate in the challenge how could I say no? I mean that just screams Allie am I right?
The challenge of June was to create anything that reminds you of summer, I shared my painting on Instagram and Twitter. I created a watercolor background and painted strawberries in acrylic on top. Strawberries are my absolute favorite fruit and remind me of summer! So it was perfect and I’m really happy with how it turns out, I definitely want to hang this up in the kitchen. Let me tell you though this was no walk in the park, in fact I originally wanted to create something entirely different. I was a little too optimistic in my abilities of creating an entire watercolor painting. I originally wanted to create a piece that looked like an ocean with jellyfish but unfortunately the jellyfish bled into the ocean part….my favorite thing about watercolors right? They are so tricky! But practice makes perfect.
Then last week I spontaneously decided that I wanted to start the 100 days project on July 1st with watercolor/illustration. I couldn’t decide between the two so I decided to do both because these are two skills I really want to improve. Here are my first two entries! I’m really excited about this since it’s something simple and just doing a little bit each day, I’m excited to see how my skill set improves over the 100 days.
Let me know how you like watercolor? Any watercolor painters here have any tips for me? Anyone else doing the 100 days project? Definitely let me know what you are up to creativity wise in the comments.
