So I think I finally have found a way to blog and paint in my free time without one edging the other out or without running around stressing and pulling out my hair like a mad woman. Since my free time is really limited to the weekends and the hours after I get home from work on the weekdays, it has been a challenge to really balance blogging and painting. I would find that when I was really into painting, I would spend most of my time painting and save my posts for the last minute. Or vice versa, while working on my blog redesign in February I didn’t even pick up a paint brush for an entire month. So I guess you could say blogging and painting have been fighting for my free time.
But no more! I have found a way that works for me to do both, which makes me really happy because I love doing both of these hobbies. Lately I’ve been working on blog content and posts for the week prior on the weekend in order for me to paint during the week. Sometimes I’ll work on other aspects of the blog during the week as well but I make sure to get the posts for Monday and Friday done before the end of the weekend. This has been SUPER helpful because then all I need to worry about is scheduling and photos, which depending on what else I have to do during the weekend, I could also get done right then and there. This allows me to work on becoming the next Monet during the week HA! Right… well a girl can dream. Practice makes perfect right?
However this can change depending on what is going on in my life. Like for example while you are reading this on Friday I’ll be on my way to Portland with my mom on our Thelma and Louise road trip in order to get a car to my sister (minus the car cliff dive). So this weekend I won’t have time to work on blog posts since I’ll be traveling and hopefully vlogging it. Fingers crossed people! So that means last weekend I needed to do Monday’s, Friday’s, and next Monday’s post in order to stay on top of things. Then next week I’ll have to write Friday’s post after I return. I’m thinking it’s going to be called “How To Spend One Weekend In Portland” so keep your eyes peeled for that!
That being said I’ve found something that works for me but I still need to be flexible because things can change and I might be busier on some weekends than others. So if that’s the case I might have to work on a post during the week instead. Which is fine, but now I know that if I really REALLY want to be able to give my all in blogging and painting, scheduling and staying ahead is the way to go. For time management it’s really just knowing what plans you already have and being able to plan around it in a way that works for you so obviously that means it will be different for everyone. Have you found a magic way of time management that allows you to have time for the things you love to do? Let me know in the comments!
