It’s been raining in the Bay Area since about last Thursday. I’ve been loving it as we desperately need the rain! As long as there is no flooding, I’m OK with it. I’ve decided to take advantage of the fact it’s raining to paint my heart out in my spare time. I’ve wanted to get back into painting sooner but after my Inside Out pieces, I wasn’t really sure what to paint. I was fresh out of ideas. I know I want to start displaying my paintings somewhere for fun but also because I’m getting to the point where I’ll need a separate room for my pieces… oops!
Then, as the rainy weather came about, so did an idea. Why not paint something I’m obsessed with and a place I love? So that’s what I did: I started painting taxis and decided to paint some photos I took in New York. I don’t know why but I just love taxis, like anything with a taxi on it I want. Part of that I credit to my Kate Spade taxi flats, they are just so damn cute. The other is because a taxi represents travel and transportation and I think I really like taxi’s because I have a strong desire to travel but also they just remind me of New York. Taxi’s representation of travel inspires me.
It’s so great to feel super inspired to create a work of art again. I love the feelings of being inspired, don’t you? Honestly, I feel weird or at least not myself if I don’t feel inspired or have multiple new ideas on a daily basis. I’ve always known that I am incredibly similar to my dad, that’s why we say I’m his clone, but seriously it’s amazing. When he was my age one of his friends gave him the nickname “everything all the time.” Why? Because he always wanted to do everything all the time!!! He wanted to make his wishes and dreams come true right that second. Sound familiar? Like a certain someone who is a little too over ambitious? Whose blog you might happen to be reading right this second? Yeah I realized this week that I’m pretty much “everything all the time” part two.
I wanted to share with you in this post my progress thus far. One piece is complete and the other I started this week is not. The first painting I thought of completely on my own. I have included the original photo for you to see what I am referencing or what inspired the second painting I have started. Maybe when I have completed my New York photo painting collection I will share it with you, but for now it is a work in progress.
I hope to continue feeling inspired as there is nothing quite like it. I have found that after painting, I feel really inspired and the creative ideas come flowing in. Maybe that’s why I like painting as a hobby so much. It continues to keep me inspired while working on a piece I was inspired to paint by something else. OOOHHH it just got deep here on the blog, HA, kidding. I have found that I really like acrylic abstract blending pieces. I have never attempted this myself (mainly because I’m unsure how to approach it) but it’s something I’ve noticed a lot on Instagram lately and it has caught my interest. Of course if I ever attempt it, I’ll share that with you here since I mean I blog about creativity and exploration every so often that there will be a post combining those topics! I hope you’ve enjoyed this little ramble about taxis, painting, and inspiration. When’s the last time you felt super inspired or alternatively, what do you do to get inspired?
