Today Luna turns 1! I can’t believe our pup is already a year old and it’s been a year since I turned to Sean before bed and said I think it’s finally time we start looking into getting that mini Aussie we have wanted for years. I then spent hours scrolling on Instagram under the hashtag #miniaussiesofinstagram and found the photo from the Rocke Ranch with puppies just born that night with only one black tri female, the exact dog we wanted and oh yeah they are a Northern California breeder. I knew it was fate, that was going to my puppy.
Luna is the best dog I could have ever dreamed of. She does have certain behaviors we are still working on training, but overall she is a really great dog who loves people and has a HUGE personality that ranges from crazy eye spaz to diva dog model. The thing I think I love the most about her is that she’s always happy, she is what I would say is the dictionary definition of a happy dog. 99% of the time she has her mouth open smiling and she will look up and smile at everyone we pass on our walk. She’s come a LONG way with being comfortable with other dogs, thank god. We worked so hard on making sure she felt comfortable to play with other dogs as that was important to us. I’m happy to say that she now does that, with the exception of being shy with giant dogs she just meets and a vocal greeting. Although she usually does this to instigate playing.
She picked up potty training almost seamlessly and is really great with the crate. She has the trick paw down, sometimes though she likes to be a little crazy and dive to put her paw in your hand. She also now knows that if she puts her paw on your hand she’ll get a treat, so sometimes she likes to try that even if we aren’t training and then will continue to do so until you notice and give her a treat.
Since photography has become a passion project of mine lately, I wanted to take some special photos to celebrate Luna’s first birthday. I LOVE cake smash photoshoots, they are such a fun idea but also feel like a giant blank canvas to put your own spin on celebrating. I think that they can be used for anything also they are mostly done for a babies first birthday. I decided to bake Lu a pup cake (puppy friendly cake) and do a cake smash photoshoot at home. She loved it and so did I!
