How many of you have had life throw a curve ball just in the worst possible moment, which leads it to putting a screeching halt on the goals you were actively working towards? Yeah me too, more times than I would have liked. It happens, unfortunately unexpected life turns is just part of life and it’s really tricky to not let the bummed/angry/frustrated attitude bleed into everything else. Then once this curve ball situation is all cleared up you find yourself saying well now what, your plan was on a back burner for days, weeks, maybe months and you wonder how are you going to get back on track since you’re back at zero. Well let me tell you, you can stay motivated during these curve balls. It’s not impossible and it will be tricky but with enough determination you can keep working towards your goals when shit hits the fan.
Here’s where things get vulnerable. I’m going to share with you my experience and the goal I have trouble staying motivated on because life just seems to always get in the way after I move past the latest road block. For a little more than a year, basically since I graduated college, I have really struggled with exercising regularly due to my allergies, which has lead to me gaining weight. And when I mean struggled exercising regularly, I mean my allergies were so bad they made it impossible for me to exercise for a year. Thank you asthma for appearing out of no where when I was 22 years old ugh. I found this really frustrating since I really enjoy exercising especially as a way to relieve stress. Whenever I would try to work a way around the allergies to exercise, the allergies would find a way to bring it to a halt. So it’s been a long uphill battle trying to get back into shape and at times I felt really discouraged because it seems like my body was my enemy whenever I would have a severe allergy flare up.
But regardless of life continuing to put up road blocks, once I start making progress with exercising, I continue to keep trying. Why? Because exercising is healthy, living a healthy lifestyle is really important to me, and mainly because I want to and I’m determined. I’ve been able to participate in high energy aerobic exercise for my entire life up until this past year, so I know my body is more than capable and has the ability to be fit. For some reason it’s being really reactive to allergies, quite honestly my body is being a drama queen so I’ve sort of reached the point where I just want to tell my body to suck it up. So here I am after I don’t know how many road blocks trying the best I can to exercise regularly because I want to and I want to get back to living a fully healthy lifestyle (I already have a pretty healthy diet, I’m just lacking in the exercise department).
The most important thing to remember when life throws you a curve ball to keep getting back up and to continue moving and working on those goals. I know that’s easier said than done so what I find works for me is to give myself a grace period where I’m allowed to get upset about the curve ball. Mainly I do this to get all the emotions out, but it also gives me the chance to analyze and process the situation at hand so I can plan moving forward. Then you can get back to working on those goals and dreams of yours. If you really want to achieve something I know you can do it, even when life decides to be a pain in the ass. Let your drive shine threw and achieve those goals, let the goal you are working on be your escape from dealing with the aftermath of shit hitting the fan. You will still most likely have to deal with it, but working on your goals and staying motivated can be a great stress relief and a way to provide a little bit of happiness during this frustration. I hope you enjoyed this post, let me know in the comments how you stay motivated when life gets in the way of achieving your goals.
