I pride myself on the fact that I am a huge “How I Met Your Mother” fan, in fact I can practically quote it and I’m convinced that I would win first place at trivia for the show. Just wanted to let you know that fact about me in case you didn’t already know that. I believe I have mentioned it more than once on my blog. OK, now that I have educated you on that little fact about me we are going to flashback to a moment in Portland when Sean and I explored Powell’s books.
Powell’s is by far the biggest book store I have ever been in. They literally have everything. Now I’m not a huge book reader, I never have been. I’ve always been a movie/TV/ run around outside crazy over hyper child type of person. But I’m the only person in my family who is not a book worm so I spent a vast majority of my time growing up in book stores, even on vacation we always stopped at a book store so everyone could pick out a book. Vacation was probably the only time I really actually read for fun because I got bored while everyone else was completely immersed in their novel of choice.
I was actually really excited to check out Powell’s because my parents said they had an entire floor dedicated for art books. Yes you read that right, an entire floor for art books. You bet I was completely in creative bliss when I made it to the art floor. Man did I have a hard time narrowing down what I thought were the best acrylic paintings books, but I was able to narrow it down to two. But that was not the highlight of this trip to Powell’s… I found the book I didn’t know I was looking for. Upon first sight I knew that I had to purchase this book and start reading it immediately. That book was “Neil Patrick Harris’ Choose Your Own Autobiography.” Yes that’s right, Neil Patrick Harris wrote an autobiography and made it more awesome than it would have been by making it a choose our own adventure.
Every “How I Met Your Mother” fan needs to go out now and buy this. Mainly one you can’t watch that show and not end up loving Neil Patrick Harris. It would be impossible, Barney is such a great character and like all the characters on the show you, end up really loving them and the actors that play them. Honestly this was such a good read, I didn’t read it like a choose your own adventure, I read every single page. I did this mainly because I was nervous I would miss something if I made the wrong choice. And as I thought there were some characteristics of Neil Patrick Harris’ personality that influenced Barney Stinson, for example NPH loves magic. In fact there’s some sections in the book where he explains magic tricks and I couldn’t help but read them in the same way Barney would explain a play from the playbook.
I sped through this book! I haven’t even touched my painting books because every night I wanted to make time to learn more about NPH and giggle because he is just too damn funny. I definitely recommend this book to any NPH fans and HIMYM fans. If you haven’t watched “How I Met Your Mother” you seriously should start watching that on Netflix now and then read this book once this show has become part of your life, because let’s be honest, it’s hard not to obsess over this show and then try and assemble your own HIMYM friend group. Little fun fact for you, Sean and I are practically Lily and Marshall; we actually met the same way the fall semester after I first started watching HIMYM, fate much? I think so, especially because he happens to be a huge HIMYM fan as well. Let me know if you’ve read this hilarious autobiography and love Neil as much as I do. As it turns out, I do like reading! So far I really like autobiographies, let me know if you have any great recommendations!
